selling the drama
My interest on blogs was born from a friend's similar interest. Although, his interests were more academic than mine (yes Pau, i'm referring to you *winks*). I thought of merely venting out my unspoken bliss (or the lack of it) initially as is so many other blogs. Curious, I later tried to experiment on some other productive things like adsense (see link above this post, go get one!). To make sense of adsense, I worked on broadcasting my blog to my small circle of yahoo friends to create traffic. But it wasn't enough. I must, I must! I went site-seeing among famous money-maker blogs and here's what I found.
There are two types of blogs I've read so far: the specialized and the personalized. Specialized blogs are those service-types that provide you with useful information, related links or web services similar to a dot com. They are special because they require special skills (or knowledge, so to speak). Personalized blogs, on the other hand, are those that serve as dump sites of human drama that the author would like to get published. If your blog is specialized, and the service high, you click. I, being a personalized blogger, need to work double time to get the needed traffic.
What I learned so far is that readers (and I mean blog readers) are mostly interested and attracted to blogs that are inclined to the bitter drama of life. My theory was proven when Carlo, a webbie by heart, referred me to a high-income personal blog. Now you're interested! (No, I won't tell you. Period.) In those blogs, expletives abound more than the articles the and an. Words that sound-and-feel-like fuck such as suck are used to describe the human drama. I am not being righteous or anything. It's just sad to see life described as such. Not to mention, make money out of it.
Our natural interest in bitterness reflects the life we live (just another theory). I tend to be cynic-skeptic at times. And yes, I like reading "bitter" blogs. But I hate living with it for the rest of my dear, precious life. Having said that, I say goodbye to the sought "traffic".
I shall not succumb to my angst-ridden emotion. Nor shall I infect other people by IT. For the meantime, IT shall remain an old rag somewhere in the corners of my inner umphh. Until the time I can use IT to wipe someone else's sorry ass (oooops, I shall not want!).
You see, a long time ago, I made myself a promise. I decided to be happy. Even if that means I will not be able to sell this drama. Heck! I will have to be contented with my initial blogging purpose then --- to vent out my bliss or attempts to have one.
Be happy people! Life rocks!
